Take notes and store them online

Often when I work online, I need to store some text or write down notes. Sometimes I have a random idea and need to put down some words so I can look them up later and work on a concept.

What I do is write down notes on a Notepad and save the file on my desktop. As I work from different computers, I end up using Dropbox to make the file available on two different computers. This led me to try and look up for a notepad which can be used online and Simple Text does just that.

Is Bing paying News Corp to delist websites from Google?

Bing has signed a deal with News Corp which gives them access to their content. It should not be really all that important except that News Corp only a few weeks ago had sent out feelers that they were about to de-list their websites from Google Search. This will probably start another round of the competition between Google and Bing.

• Bing has signed up a deal with News Corp and will be paying for exclusive material from their newspapers and journals. This most definitely means News Corp will de-list their website from Google search in return. What does it really imply? It implies that you cannot search for News Corp content using Google.
• This might in a way force Google do to the same, that is pay for news content and hence in the long run hurt their profits. Will Google follow Bing? I doubt it will. The loser in this case can be News Corp, who will have it’s website content show up only to people using Bing and no visitors will be directed from Google.
• Finally Google does not make any money from Google News so this would not really dent Google at all.

Protect privacy while using Chrome with free software

When you use the Chrome Browser there are details which can be stored based on the unique ID. This browser is a favorite of mine and I love its functionality along with spartan design. Chrome is undoubtedly much faster than most other browsers out there.

Google Chrome uses a client_id variable which is unique for every Chrome user. This can be used to create user profiles of a user’s actions while using Chrome. You can delete this information and secure your browser by using a free software called Chrome Privacy Protector.

What is client_id in Chrome Browser?

It is a unique ID given to collect statistics of usage. Often such usage is used for tracking the usage for improvement of the browser. Google has finally released Chromium OS as a open source project. • This will also mean that when if Chrome OS crashes, there will be no data loss as all data will be stored online. So if my Chrome OS crashes all I will need is to re-install it and I should be good to go with all my data intact as it would anyways be stored online.

Chrome OS vs Windows 7

Many blogs might be taking the name of Chrome OS as competition to Windows 7, but I doubt that is the case. Google has kept its focus on internet functionality unlike Microsoft which is multi focused. I doubt Google is even looking to rival Microsoft’s Windows with Chrome OS. The impact Chrome OS will have on the Operating System market is still to be seen. Being still a year away from when it might get out of beta where Chrome OS will position itself is difficult to predict.

But if Google gets Chrome OS right, there is a good chance that people who are just using the internet and their browser with their computers might just dump Windows and move over to Chrome. I do not see Mac users dumping their Macs for Chrome OS as most people who buy a Mac would need their computers for a lot more than just using the internet.

Most people who use search engines often use it for looking up local information. Google Search is quite handy to look up phone numbers for restaurants, hospitals and other important details you might require.

But what if I did not have access to the internet. Well I can always call up a friend and request him to search for an address or phone number. A few days ago I needed to find some phone numbers to all the hospitals in the locality I live in. I called this service JustDial and got all the information I needed. They sent me the address via email and also sent me the address and contact numbers through SMS. This was quite handy to look up locally listed businesses or services on the go.

Just Dial on Internet

• Using Just Dial website I could look up all the hospitals in my locality. It apparently covers over 250 cities in India and is probably the best way to search for local information in India.
• You can order flowers to someone, check out places of interest like restaurants and hotels by specifying the locality in which you are searching within the city, so that narrows down your search results. For instance I looked up hospitals only in my locality and not the whole city.
• There are many other specialized local listings, like a section on movies which allows you to select a movie and location you are in. It shows up a list of theaters the movie might be playing in.

Just Dial on Phone

• As I wrote before you do not need to be online to use JustDial. All you have to do is call Just Dial which is a local call from any city in India where the service is available.
• Their number is 6999 9999 and someone on the other end of the call does the searching for you. Then you can give your mobile number and ask for the relevant details to be sent through a text message.

I have used this service a few times, it is a great help during emergencies. Not everyone has internet access over a cell phone. People who are not really into using internet website can also use this service with a simple call from any land-line.

Yesterday I came across a online tool called Intodit to create a Wiki on just about anything. This is quite useful to create documentation or have a group working on a project to create a reference guide for some day in the future.

It can also be used for non-professional needs like creating a wiki for a city or even on a hobby. Wiki is a great way to learn as you can also involve other people with similar interests to add to the wiki and make it more comprehensive.

Breaking : AMD and Intel Announce Settlement of All Antitrust and IP Disputes

Intel Corporation and Advanced Micro Devices (NYSE: AMD) today announced a comprehensive agreement to end all outstanding legal disputes between the companies, including antitrust litigation and patent cross license disputes.

In a joint statement the two companies commented, “While the relationship between the two companies has been difficult in the past, this agreement ends the legal disputes and enables the companies to focus all of our efforts on product innovation and development.”

Under terms of the agreement, AMD and Intel obtain patent rights from a new 5-year cross license agreement, Intel and AMD will give up any claims of breach from the previous license agreement, and Intel will pay AMD $1.25 billion. Intel has also agreed to abide by a set of business practice provisions. As a result, AMD will drop all pending litigation including the case in U.S. District Court in Delaware and two cases pending in Japan. AMD will also withdraw all of its regulatory complaints worldwide. The agreement will be made public in filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

“This is a historical settlement for the microprocessor industry. The settlement will set transparent ground rules for open, competitive markets, with which Intel, in full public view, has agreed to comply. Fair and open competition dictates that the best product wins and market forces prevail. I am very confident that this development will help us strengthen our market position.” said Ramkumar Subramanian, VP, Sales & Marketing, AMD India.

So, as long as the competition keeps going, we as the customer have the freedom of choice and the market remains democratic. The day there’s monopoly, the company is free to manipulate the market for its gains and innovation hits a dead end. Any company needs to realize that competition is necessary and healthy. It helps them innovate and come up with new products to one-up the competition. It also justifies the reason to pay salaries to their sales & marketing departments that help promote the brand and attack the competition.

How To Hide Partitions Without Using Any Software

Here is a very cool and simple trick to hide any partition of our hard drive on computer. Many times we will think of hiding some confidential data form others.I have shown two easy methods to hide partitions without using any software.

Hide Partitions Using Command Prompt
1. Go to Start-->Run.
2. Type Diskpart and press Enter.
3. In the console type List volume to see all the drives available on your PC.
4. Now select the drive which you want to hide.
Note:
Here I have shown how to hide E drive.
5. In My PC it is volume 2 for drive E .
6. Now to hide drive E type Select volume 2 .

7. Then type remove letter e , this will hide your drive.
8. Now to get your drive back type Select volume 2 and then type assign letter e.

Hide Partitions Using Computer Management
1. Right click My Computer.
2. Click Manage or press letter G.
3. This will open Computer Management.
4. Under Storage, select Disk Management.
5. Right click on the drive which you wish to hide.
6. Select Change drive letters and paths...



7. Click Remove
8. Now can find your partition will be hidden.
9. To get back the partition Computer Management-->Select drive--> Change drive letters and paths
10. Now select Add option.
11. In that Assign the following drive letter.
12. Select ok.
